Foresight Health® Pyruvate Kinase Deficiency

Pyruvate Kinase Deficiency (PKDef) causes a reduction in the pyruvate kinase enzyme in red blood cells. This can cause haemolytic anaemia in which red blood cells are destroyed faster than they can be created. The degree of anaemia can be variable ranging from mild to life-threatening, and may only become apparent when the cat is older.

Pyruvate Kinase Deficiency is an autosomal recessive condition caused by a mutation in the PKLR gene.
