Foresight Health® Mucopolysaccharidosis

Our Foresight Health® single test for Mucopolysaccharidosis is ideal for breeders and owners who want the reassurance of genetic health testing.

Our DNA test results are accepted by the Kennel Club.

The guideline turnaround time for single tests is approximately 10-12 working days after the swab arrives at the lab.

If you need more than two tests it is often more cost-effective to order the relevant Foresight Health® breed package.

Mucopolysaccharidosis (MPS) is a lysosomal storage disease which affects an enzyme during metabolism. Type IIIA presents around three years of age and affected dogs progressively degenerate neurologically with loss of reflexes in the hind legs, and head tremors. Type IIIB causes progressive tremors and difficulties walking, usually resulting in euthanasia. Type VII is shown as a dog half normal size with a disproportionately large head by nine weeks old, and by a few months they have trouble standing due to crooked legs. This usually results in euthanasia due to quality of life.

An autosomal recessive condition caused by a mutation in the SGSH (Type IIIA), or GUSB (Type VII) gene.

This test is also included in the following Foresight Health® breed packages:
