Foresight Health® Cystinuria
Our Foresight Health® single test for Cystinuria is ideal for breeders and owners who want the reassurance of genetic health testing.
Our DNA test results are accepted by the Kennel Club.
Cystinuria (CU) affects kidney function with affected dogs being unable to reabsorb cystine from the urine. This excess cystine can cause crystals or stones to block the urinary tract and lack of treatment can cause kidney failure and death.
This is an autosomal recessive condition in most breeds, but autosomal dominant in the Australian Cattle Dog, and is caused by a mutation in the SLC3A1 gene.
This test is also included in the following Foresight Health® breed packages:
- Australian Cattle Dog (Type 2A)
- Cockerdor (Type 1A-Labrador)
- Labrador Supplemental (Type 1A-Labrador)
- Newfoundland (Type 1A-Newfoundland)
The guideline turnaround time for single tests is approximately 10-12 working days after the swab arrives at the lab.
If you need more than two tests it is often more cost-effective to order the relevant Foresight Health® breed package.
