A-Locus (agouti)

£42.00

The A-Locus is a region of your cat's DNA which controls whether your cat has banded or solid colour hairs.

There are multiple alleles, or mutations, present in the A-locus which cause your cat's hairs to be banded or solid, we test for the presence of the a allele. The A causes a switching between red and black pigments causing banding in the individual hairs. If your cat has inherited two copies of a this will interrupt the switching process and create solid colour hairs.

The banded or solid colourations are caused by mutations on the ASIP gene. Non-agouti is recessive meaning two copies of a are required to create solid colour hairs.

Results:

Your results will be reported as one combination of the A-locus alleles with the following interpretations.

A/A - agouti
A/a - agouti carrying non-agouti
a/a - non-agouti
